As part of networking, attending events and business parties becomes a regular—and enjoyable —part of the journey. What’s not to love about a party? You get to partake of good food, engaging conversations, and perhaps even a little dancing.
For example, I recently attended the Atlantic City Fiesta Hospitality Event in November thrown in partnership with the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey. It was a fantastic experience with great music, tasty food, and delicious drinks, all hosted at the Noyes Art Garage of Stockton University. An added bonus? The event space showcased several art installations, including displays on Lenape Indians and Early African Americans from Atlantic City. Local artists shared the space, too, providing a unique cultural backdrop. We networked with politicians, business leaders, and professionals from across the state—a perfect combination when you’re prepared to make the most of it.
Reflecting on 17 years of running Creative Mind Consulting Group, I’ve learned a thing or two about leveraging events like these. The journey has been a mix of challenges and triumphs, but one constant is this: a well-planned party can open doors, deepen connections, and leave a lasting impression.
Here’s how we made a recent event—a 20th-anniversary celebration for the Family Support Organization of Essex County (FSOEC)—both effective and memorable.
Plan, Plan, Plan
Preparation is the foundation of a successful event. For FSOEC, we created a solid plan to maximize attendance, deliver key messages, and ensure guests felt valued Stephen Covey’s advice, “Begin with the end in mind,” is spot-on. Start with your goals and build your plan around them. Address budgets, announcements, themes, and activities that align with your vision. Whether it’s charity elements, interactive components, or pure celebration, planning ensures every detail contributes toward a memorable experience.

Market, Market, Market
Even the best-planned event won’t succeed without a strong promotional effort. Allocate part of your budget to marketing—social media, email campaigns, advertising, and event listings.
For the Fiesta Event, organizers leveraged platforms like Eventbrite, email newsletters, and local event calendars to generate buzz. The result? A packed house. Whether it’s your current clients, past partners, or prospective connections, bring them into your story.
Include Entertainment
Every great party has a pulse, and that pulse is entertainment. If you’re able this could be a live band, a DJ, or even curated playlists. Think about your audience—what resonates with their tastes? A mix of relaxing music for conversation and danceable tracks for fun can balance the atmosphere. At the Fiesta Event, the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of NJ partnered to deliver vibrant, cultural music that energized the room. It’s these thoughtful touches that keep guests talking long after the event.
Make the Party Memorable
A memorable event has personality and purpose. For FSOEC, we crafted the theme “It’s a Family Affair,” which tied into their mission and history. Guests participated in a game designed to educate them about FSOEC’s services while having fun. The game was played both before and during the event, with prizes and laughter creating an engaging atmosphere.
Whatever your theme or approach, adding personal touches will leave a lasting impression.
Record the Event
Moments like these don’t happen every day, so capture them! Hire a photographer, record video, or even livestream the event. Share highlights on social media to amplify your message and showcase the celebration’s success. At FSOEC’s event, photos and videos were shared post-event, helping to spread the message and create goodwill. Remember, people like working with those who know how to have fun.
Part(y)ing Words.
